Inside Scoops with Pearlyn & Paper Revealed!

For those of you who don’t already know, in this month of love, we’ve collaborated with wedding stationery designer, Pearlyn, who also goes by Pearlyn and Paper to come up with these creative floral gift cards. Pearlyn took the time to hand-paint these intricate floral designs which makes great postcards as well as a unique candle gift – especially with this one-of-a-kind expression label!

Today’s post is particularly significant because we’ll be sharing more about the lady behind these impressive designs, what inspires her and what goes on her beautiful mind as she meticulously expresses her craft onto paper.

We understand you have a history in jewellery designing, can you share a little more about that with us?

Yes I do, I studied Jewellery Design in university and worked as a Jewellery designer for 5 years. It was a fantastic experience where I got to learn more than just design, but the business part that goes behind the scenes. 

How did you enter the business of designing wedding stationery?

When a friend of mine was getting married in 6 months and had no wedding invitations and I offered to help. That's when I realised how much I enjoyed creating them.

There wasn't any watercolour inspired wedding card invitations in the market then, one thing led to another and before I knew it, I was getting so many jobs that I realised I could be doing it full time.

Your designs are so lovely, where do you get your inspirations from?

Mostly from the couples themselves! I always love to hear a little about their love story and journey. Gathering from where and how they met, sometimes about the wedding venue itself or what they like always sparks inspiration for me. 

Can you share with us one of your most memorable projects?

Both Rajiv & Meera wanted to infuse their Indian heritage into their wedding invitations, Kerala, a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast and their Indian temple was the inspiration to their invitations.

Gold elements without a doubt was included as well. A decorated elephant used in Kerala was unlike the usual colourfully painted elephants. The elephants are decked with gold armour, and this was the inspiration for the cover of the card together with gold foiled henna.

Do you see a design trend that young couples like nowadays?

I see the move of soft florals into a more botanical take these days. Apart from that, I think more and more couples would like their cards to be more personable, for example, portraits for themselves and things they love.

As weddings get more and more intimate, there has been more requests of thank you cards with a blank area where the couple can express their thanks to their wedding entourage or guests.

As we move towards a digital world, do you foresee your designs to be entirely digital? 

I do get one or two couples asking for digital invitations, however I think most couples still see the weight of giving out physical invitations.

I also believe that there's a certain amount of importance and grandeur when one hands their invitations out personally; it gives meaning and makes the receiver feel special, just like a hand-written note. 
 

When was the last time you wrote a handwritten note to share with someone who was special to you?
